The CVA for Cuppers course is a professional training designed for experienced cuppers, Q Graders, roasters, and coffee quality professionals. Instead of relying on the classic 100-point system, CVA provides a multidimensional evaluation that considers sensory, physical, and market-driven attributes
Duration & Format: 2 days of combined training + examination
DAY 1
DAY 2
Advanced practice: score comparison, case studies
Two assessment forms:
Calibrated sessions: tasting coffees of various origins and qualities; analyzing flavors, textures, acidity, sweetness, aftertaste; exercises with reference products (fruits, nuts, cream, etc.) to build sensory references
Group work: comparing and discussing scores; refining descriptive language; constructive feedback
Practical exam: end of Day 2 (tasting and forms)
Online exam: after the course on the SCA platform
To obtain the certificate, both exams must be passed (minimum score: 80%).
Upon completion, participants who pass both the practical and written assessments will receive the official SCA CVA certificate.
This is a 2-day course for experienced cuppers to teach them about the CVA form and system. If you are already a Q Grader or have at one time been a Q Grader, this course all serves as a calibration, extending your Q Grader license for another 3 years.
A seasoned sensory professional, Joel brings deep experience in coffee evaluation and training.
He will guide participants through hands-on sessions, mentor calibration strategies, and share insights from his extensive work with coffee producers and quality programs worldwide.
